What is the footprint of my vehicle?

We offer you the following standard categories to neutralize your vehicle’s CO2 footprint:

555, 444, 333, 222 and 111 trees planted.

Here is how you do the calculation:

Example :  Jeep SRT (numbers are approximate)

Step 1:

Look up your CO2 footprint on FUELECONOMY.gov ( once you found your car, click on the tab "more about this vehicle" and go down to " Greenhouse Gas Emissions" )

>>> in our example 616 g/mile CO2

Step 2:

Assuming you drive about 15,000 miles >>> how many miles did you drive last year?

616g * 15,000miles = 9,240,000g >>> divide that by 1000 to get “kg” >>> 9,240kg of CO2 used over 15,000miles. That is about 10 ton of CO2 produced!

Step 3:

One grown hardwood tree may absorb about 20 kg (or 40 lbs) of CO2 per year.

Other websites may cite higher numbers, but remember that tree types and developmental stages will greatly effect the outcome, but we leave the calculation up to you.

9,240 kg / 20 kg = 462 trees are needed to absorb the CO2 produced by the SRT, or similarly powerful cars, SUVs, or trucks. Here we suggest to plant 555 trees.

Naturally, until the tree is fully grown, it does not absorb that much, but it will live many years thereafter, several assumptions go into this calculation.

Also, just how much CO2 is produced by your car depends heavily on usage.

EPA.gov cites that the average passenger vehicle emits about 404 g of CO2 per mile, translating into the need to plant 303 trees >>> get our 333 sticker <<< and if you were driving 15,000 miles and wanted to offset your CO2 footprint, or if driven only 10,000 miles, 202 trees >>> get our 222 sticker <<<.
